Half Day
Purpose:

If your life involves dealing with high levels of stress, or you are routinely faced with managing complex and challenging problems, there are skills and techniques you can learn to manage and deal effectively with this.

We spend much of our time living in the past or the future due to our work and personal concerns. Over a prolonged period of time this has negative impacts on our emotional, mental and physical health. Through regular practice, meditation helps us counteract this by teaching us to live in the here and the now. This workshop is an introduction to mindfulness meditation.

During this workshop we will explore different methods of meditation, which can then be carried forward to become a part of your daily routine. Some of the proven benefits of meditation include reduced stress levels, increased mental stamina, enhanced creativity and better physical health. In other words, mindfulness meditation is an essential tool for the modern worker.

Set in an environment where the opportunity is there to fully switch off from it all, this is the perfect chance to also take time out to gain some perspective and insight.

Benefits:

Due to the nature of modern life the World Health Organisation estimates depression will impose the second-biggest health burden globally by 2020. In other words, depression will impose a bigger burden than heart disease, arthritis and many forms of cancer on individuals and organisations within the next six years.

Stress is another big problem. The WHO have even gone so far as to label stress the “health epidemic of the 21st century” estimating it costs American businesses up to $300 billion year. Dr Bruce Lipton of Stanford University Medical School said in a medical journal, that 95% of all sickness is a result of stress.

To counteract these issues scientific studies have shown that meditation not only prevents depression but also positively affects the brain patterns underlying day-to-day anxiety and stress. Regular meditators see their doctors less often and spend fewer days in hospital. Memory improves, creativity increases and reaction times become faster.

This is why companies like Google, Nike and Apple are embracing meditation as a tool for reducing stress in their companies. They have realised the detrimental impact stress has on the efficiency and health of their staff and they are aware of how meditation can be used to combat this problem effectively.  In fact, mindfulness meditation has proven so beneficial that it is now recommended in the guidelines of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) as a treatment of choice for people who have suffered three or more episodes of depression.

So in other words by investing in the ability of your staff to unwind with meditation helps reduce the number of sick days that are costing your business money. It also helps increase the productivity of your people so more will get done during the time they spend working for you. For example in a recent paper published by PWC it was revealed that businesses will receive an average return of $2.30 for every $1 they invest in effective workplace mental health strategies.

Detailed Content:

This course provides the opportunity of a space away from the daily grind where you will learn how to apply meditation techniques to cope with and bring your stress levels under control.

What is meditation?

Learn about this ancient technique, where it came from, what it does and how it can help you.

What is it like to meditate?

Most of the work that we do in the business world is connected to logic and language, the left side of our brain. This is also true of what we learn at school and university. But there is another side of our brain, the right side. This is our powerhouse of creativity, memory and imagination amongst many other things.

Meditation works on the right side of our brain therefore it is something best understood when experienced first hand. Throughout this course we offer different techniques of meditation for you to explore.  The opportunity to view your life from a new perspective is there for the taking, inviting in fresh wisdom and insight.
